Three Events that Let Me Know Fall is Here

Leaves changing color in Fall

I know. It shouldn’t really be a question as we are three weeks into the Fall season. Summer is long gone. But I miss it, and I am having a hard time letting go. You remember those long bright days.

The pre-24-hour-Miley days. The pre-government-shutdown days. Yes, those were good days.

Or.

The no-homework days.

The no-getting-up-in-the-dark days.

The no-6th-period-from-hell days.

Sigh. I know – move on, MMK. I’m trying. Really, I am.

Well, some things have arisen recently that have helped me force my summer dreams aside and let me know Fall is really here.

1. I put the heat on last night. It was cold in our house, and there was a need to turn on the heat. Now, I have actually put it on twice already only to turn it off when it got warmer again. Yet, weather.com is not forecasting any more upper 70’s – 80’s temperatures in my area over the next 10 days. It’s actually getting cooler and it’s only going to get more so. On top of that, I even drank hot chocolate last night and it was not just to be social at Starbucks.

2. The calendar is closer to Halloween than Labor Day. Shocking right? Well, my friend Kate over at Did That Just Happen is already counting down to Christmas. Then there is Nancy over at Shoes on the Wrong Feet whose getting ready for Thanksgiving. While I am not nearly as far sighted as these bloggers, even I have to admit the Holiday season no longer means barbeques.

3. Television tells truth. Last night I watched Modern Family and The Middle (not all of it – can anyone help me out and tell me how it ended?). Not big news in and of itself. However, they were new episodes – no more reruns. Television wouldn’t steer me wrong. So, if it’s the new television season, it must be Fall.

So, there you go. It really is Fall. My longings for Summer will go unrequited.

Now maybe, magically my schedule can fall into place. Maybe, I can appreciate the benefits of a new school year for the boys and me. Maybe I can remember to appreciate the leaves changing colors.

Fall is my favorite season by the way. Now, let me try and savor it.

  1. You turned on the heat – and it’s not for the first time! And that’s why I live in Texas. Up until a few days ago the A/C was still kicking on! We are only getting up to the mid 80’s this week, so we’ve been pulling out the hoodies. 🙂 Okay, the hoodies are for the 60’s in the morning, but still!

I think you should start savoring your favorite season! I just finished carving my latest pumpkin and Mr. T and I had fun with it!

I over slept this morning… so I’m with you there, I miss not having to get up in the mornings! 🙂

    • It really is a different world down there.
Over sleeping leaves me mixed emotions. I basically feel that I slept late cause I needed to but I feel bad if I have missed something that needed to be handled.
Anyway, I am looking forward to getting up later this weekend.

      • It is almost a different planet based on some of your blogs! 🙂 I did sleep in some today, I was just too tired to get up, and that extra 30 minutes felt so good!! I’m ready for tomorrow when I can really sleep in… I might not get up until 8 am… Whoo Hooo!!

        • 8:00 – you are on the wild side. Honestly, I never get up at that hour these days. Darn kids! So, I hope you enjoyed that sleep.

  2. The weather has been warm here, too. I’m headed out to buy a new furnace filter today because I think we’re going to need it soon.

Before I forget to tell you, Eric and I will be on vacation in Italy next week. I’ll try to keep up on reading your blogs whenever we find some Wi-Fi, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to comment. The device we’re taking doesn’t always work as smoothly as our computer does for comments. I just didn’t want you to think I was ignoring you! 🙂

  3. I really love Fall too. There is something about the snap of cold in the air as you head out to start your day and, if you are lucky to live in a place where the trees appear to burst into flames, you are faced with the oranges, yellows, reds, and browns from those once green trees. Plus if you are me and a close friend of mine, you get to celebrate Practice Thanksgiving. I highly recommend talking to your wife about adding this holiday to your family calendar. It is a great one! 🙂

  4. Hi Larry! 🙂
Fall is my favorite season too and you should really start savouring it now, I know I have. You know, I try not to prepare myself a cup of hot chocolate every evening (I try) 😉 & I started baking again = FALL ha!ha! 🙂 hope you are doing well, glad to be catching up on your last posts too!

    • The other day we went for a hike which definitely helped me for the fall mood. Also, we have a pumpkin on our doorstep which is festive.
      What are you baking?
      Enjoy the old posts.

  5. that’s good a hike! I’m sure it made you feel better too 🙂
we have 2 pumpkins outside too, haven’t done much this year, maybe in the next days 🙂
I prepared a simple chocolate cake and also a delicious chocolate pave! it was really good, got the recipe from a TV show but I think I might try it again this weekend with a different ingredient (maybe) 😉

  6. I’ve been enjoying the fall this year. It’s been warmer longer than usual and I’ve been savouring the fall colours. Hope your fall is fabulous.
