Can’t Wait to Catch Catching Fire

Catching Fire Movie Poster

Catching Fire

You read that right. I am very much looking forward to watching Catching Fire which is out in theatres today. Of course you knew that – unless you live under a rock.

Seriously is Jennifer Lawrence ubiquitous or what? I think she is on practically every talk show, magazine cover, and radio station.

Anyway, I read the Hunger Games trilogy a couple of years ago and enjoyed it very much.

I did not rush to see the Hunger Games movie. My wife never read the book and was not interested in seeing the movie. The only person I knew who was interested in seeing the Hunger Games movie was another guy in my age range. We did not quite fit the demographic.

So, I did not catch the Hunger Games movie till Netflix. Well, I was certainly glad I did. The movie was excellent. It was one of the best adaptations of a book I ever saw. Hunger Games looked just as I imagined it.  However, my wife was still not interested.

Therefore, I am left dateless for Catching Fire. I suppose I can try and convince her again.

We get to about three movies a year. I just hope one of them this year is Catching Fire. If not, I might give that buddy of mine a call.

In the meantime, if any of you make it to see Catching Fire, please send me your review.

Go Katniss!

An edited snipped of a old post entitled Hip for the Hunger Games

I’ve gotten to the age where I know I’m not cool. It’s not particularly important to me – no need to set trends. I’ll take happy children, a contented wife, and a decent job. I am comfortable with myself. Yet, a part of me likes to look in the mirror and think I’ve still got it.  Yes, I’m a dad in the suburbs, though I don’t own a minivan, so I’m not so typical.  Really, it’s true.

This past week I completed The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. That’s right I’ve read The Hunger Games which happens to be number two on the NY Times best seller list – children’s series (I’d prefer to think of it as young adult)!

My little cousin recommended The Hunger Games to me, so I figured I’d check it out. I am a good cousin.  Well, I think I proved I was a good cousin by reading the first of the trilogy, a nearly 400 page book, over my five day vacation ignoring the clock and going to sleep way past my bedtime. I read the Catching Fire and Mockingjay for me.

See, I am not a stuffy 40ish English teacher who only reads proper literature. I am plugged in, on the scene, and in touch.

  1. 🙂 I saw the movie when it came out on DVD because one of my brothers recommended but I did not read the books 🙂 I’m sure they are good, I might read them later!
& hope your wife will want to go with you to the movies 🙂

  2. I have an appalling taste in movies–only happy and fun. Grumpy Old Men, yes. The Sound of Music (up to where the Nazis arrive), yes. The Muppets, yes.

At this very moment my husband is out with a friend watching a movie for grown ups. Thank goodness!

  3. I loved the books!! The movie was good too, but the books were amazing. I’m hoping to see Catching Fire in theatre too, maybe one of my kids will be my date.
